Foods That Enhance Your Libido

Is it true that some foods have aphrodisiac enhancement properties that can increase your libido? This article will explore some of the foods and drinks that are believed to be able to enhance your libido.
An aphrodisiac is a substance that acts on the brain causing increased sexual desire and arousals. The word aphrodisiac came from the Greek word Aphrodite who was the goddess of love in Greek mythology.
It is now known that some foods and drinks have a direct effect on a person's sexual activities and arousals as they act within the brain and affect your hormone levels. Some of these foods can even increase blood flow to your genital area which can help men who are suffering from erectile dysfunction to have better erections.
Here are some food and drinks which are believed to be able to enhance your libido and aphrodisiac effects.
a) Pop the Champagne - Champagne is a very potent natural aphrodisiac and perhaps that is the reason why this drink is associated to celebrations and romantic candlelight dinners. Because of its inherent gas bubbles, champagne hits the bloodstream pretty fast intoxicates the body with a warm fussy feeling. Some studies have even suggested that the scents of dry champagnes are somewhat similar to that of female pheromones which are powerful sexual attraction scents.
b) Gone Bananas - Of course the aphrodisiac capability of this fruit is not because of its shape which is associated to the male sexual organ but because the fruit is very rich in B vitamins, potassium and magnesium. These vitamins and minerals are known to enhance your libido.
c) Chocolate - The chocolate is perhaps one of the best known natural aphrodisiac. While processed chocolates are easily available in stores, nothing beats the aphrodisiac capability of pure chocolate. This is because pure chocolate contains anandamide which gives you a natural good feeling.
Pure chocolate also contains phenylethylamine which releases dopamine (happy hormone) in the brain's pleasure center and induces feelings of pleasure and excitement. This release can even peak at an orgasm.
d) Oysters - Another well known aphrodisiac food and has a sterling reputation for increasing sexual desires when consumed. The high level of zinc in this shellfish is known to help produce more sperm, increase testosterone (male sex hormone) and also increase libido in both men and women.
e) Basil leaves - Basil leaves have many positive effects on the human body and the fragrances of the leaves are believed to be an aphrodisiac. The taste of this herb is also known to stimulate sexual desires and can even increase the heart rate. So to get your partner ready for some romance, why not experiment cooking some food with basil leaves?
f) Vanilla - The fragrance and flavor of vanilla is believed to increase sexual lust. According to an ancient folklore, a girl named Xanat who was the daughter of the Mexican fertility goddess loved a Totonac young man. Being unable to marry a mere mortal, she transformed herself into a vanilla plant that would provide pleasure and happiness for everyone.
